Humans don’t WANT breaks; we NEED breaks.

But what does it have to do with finding your PASSION?

All of my 2 readers know how passionate about the subject of passion.

And almost all my articles are somehow related to it.

Today, I was thinking about how we often keep saying that we need breaks.

Let’s break down ‘breaks.’

Read along if the following is true for you:

  1. You are working in a job.
  2. There is a boss or bosses that you report to.
  3. You wait for the weekends.
  4. You dread Mondays.
  5. You need an alarm to wake up.

If none of it is true for you, this post might not motivate you enough, but it’s always good to reassure… so read along!

So, tell me this:

How often has it been that you’ve been doing your favourite thing in the world and you wished for it to end?

Maybe you are cosy in your bed on a dreamy Sunday morning.

Maybe you are on the most joyous vacation with friends/family.

Do you wish for a break from those things?

No! You want that to last forever.

But, when it comes to your job, the story changes.

You really want the weekend to come asap so that you can take a break.

Heck, sometimes you’re just happier for the part of the day where you don’t have to do a job.

Sucks!

With this state of mind, you’re almost as valuable as your juniors. Your efficiency is lower; decision making is hampered; creativity is next to null.

Why?

Because you’re not in a state of flow.

Flow is a state in which you are performing at your best — where time ceases to exist — like when you’re doing your favourite thing — that is what you ought to do if you want to feel fulfilled.

Now, a simple way to know if you’re in flow is to notice your thought. Are you thinking

A) How do I solve this problem?

B) When will this end so that I can relax?

A is obviously the correct answer, in case some of you couldn’t figure that out!

Where do we go wrong?

We lie to ourself about our need to take a break as a want. We think it is something we should do when it actually is something that we must do.

And it isn’t a mental need of yours. It’s a biological need. Your hormones aren’t secreted well.

Be it testosterone, Estrogen, GSH, etc. None of it is firing enough.

We need to be honest with ourselves and be brave.

When your mind and your body say that you need a break too frequently when you’re doing a particular thing, then it’s time to change the thing.

And often, that change requires bravery.

So, be brave soldiers.

Notice, I said too frequently because you constantly need breaks even from working on your passion. Monotony is another problem.

But you will notice that the frequency isn’t too high compared to when you’re doing something you don’t enjoy as much.

So, with that being said, I conclude this article/very long Instagram post.
